Communities Transformed by Inclusive Health Participation and Research
Voices from the
Community
At Xavier University of Louisiana, our LA-CEAL project has revealed a significant gap in clinical trial participation among over 900 minority group members, highlighting an urgent need for more inclusive healthcare practices. This crucial feedback underscores the importance of making healthcare research more accessible and relevant to diverse communities. Our focus is not only on increasing trial inclusivity but also on empowering community healthcare workers with enhanced cultural competence and communication skills. By integrating community feedback into healthcare policies and practices, we aim to create a more responsive and equitable healthcare system. We are committed to transforming these insights into meaningful action, fostering a healthcare environment that is truly inclusive and shaped by the community's needs and perspectives.
Empowering Future Minority
Healthcare Professionals
At Xavier University of Louisiana's College of Pharmacy, we are dedicated to fostering a diverse workforce that mirrors the dynamic society we serve, particularly in healthcare. As a distinguished HBCU, we are uniquely positioned to uplift minorities in the healthcare sector. While currently less than 10% of our students are engaged in industry fellowships, we see a vast potential for their increased involvement in clinical trials and research. Our goal is to inspire and equip our students to lead and innovate in these crucial areas, thereby bringing diverse perspectives to the forefront of healthcare research. By nurturing our students in this way, we're contributing to a future where healthcare solutions are inclusive and representative of all communities' needs.
That’s why we've developed a dynamic clinical trial education model embedded in our local communities to directly address community concerns regarding barriers to clinical trial participation. This proactive approach aims to significantly boost participation rates by providing immediate, accessible, and accurate information at crucial decision points. A vital aspect of this initiative is enhancing the capabilities of our community healthcare workers, focusing on improving their research skills, cultural competence, and communication abilities. This effort reflects our commitment to fostering a healthier, well-informed, and resilient community.
